No – we don’t sit cross legged and chant OM. We sweat, laugh and try things that are new for our body. The class is a combination of flowing movements, poses focusing on strength and flexibility, with a short relaxation at the end. Then we leave the studio feeling better than when we arrived. Our studio has a community focus, forget the glossy yoga image on Instagram. We are real people who just love to do yoga.
Yoga is an ancient practice, some say it is over 5,000 years old. The traditional principles of yoga still resonate with people today. Through the teachings of masters such as Krishnamacharya, over the past 100 years yoga has spread across the globe and evolved into many branches. Power Vinyasa Yoga as developed by American master teacher Baron Baptiste is very flowing and powerful, working all aspects of your body incorporating breathe and building internal heat.
The All Level classes are suitable for anyone over 14 years old, of average fitness level. No previous yoga practice, or flexibility, is required. If you have medical issues, it is best to give us a call first to determine whether this is the most suitable style of yoga for you. If you are an experienced yogi, Nerida can give you advanced versions to challenge your mind and body.
Great – that’s where we all start our yoga journey. The All Level Classes are designed to be suitable for beginners, each session is adapted to suit the students in attendance. If you have particular health issues, modifications are provided so that you can do a class which is safe for you. We no longer offer a Beginners class, however we do run Beginners Courses. Please let us know if you are interested in the next course.
It is recommended that you do not eat a big meal 2 hours prior to yoga class, eat light for class. A banana, some nuts or a muesli bar are ideal if you are peckish. Definitely do not practice yoga after drinking alcohol.
If you have been practicing with us for a while, or already have an established practice, then regular sessions will be beneficial for your pregnancy. You do need to make sure that you don’t overstretch, take regular rests and as your baby grows – you will become aware of the poses that are no longer possible. It is generally not advisable to commence Power Vinyasa Yoga during pregnancy as this is a more vigorous style of practice. There are Pregnancy classes offered at other locations around Perth that are more suitable. We’d love to have you join us once your baby is born and your doctor has given you the OK to commencing exercising again.
They are endless! Each yoga pose has it’s own specific benefits. Initially most people feel the physical benefits, either a general improvement in health or specifically in trouble areas such as back or hips, digestion or sleeping. With regular practice, you start to notice improvement in mental clarity, moods and emotions. Wherever you need the benefit – yoga finds it for you. All we need to do is get on the mat and the magic unfolds.
